Today AI is everywhere. Twenty years ago, it was a vision.
This is the story of my work on virtual assistants and conversational interfaces, started in 2006.
At the Job Fair 2006 in Florence, I presented "Talking Video Communication" for the first time.
While the web was predominantly text-based, visitors to the fair could interact with a totem hosting a flesh-and-blood assistant (pre-recorded), capable of answering questions about jobs and career guidance. A fusion of physical and digital that was ahead of its time.
In collaboration with Marco Masini, we launched the first virtual clone of a public figure. Masini recorded over 2000 video responses.
Not a graphic avatar, but the artist himself answering fans 24/7. A technology cited by Nove da Firenze as a revolution in artist-fan communication, well before the massive advent of social networks.
